Just a quick note here on Tuesday morning as I'm about to head off for San Diego and the insanity that will no doubt ensue. I've spent the time since I've gotten back from Chicago contacting retailers for promo material and such and the response has been decent--hopefully I can meet some more of them face to face in SD. And hopefully I can sell a bunch of books--but I'm looking forward to it otherwise since I've never been to that part of the country. The weather looks beautiful and from everything I've been reading on WEF and other places around the web it looks like SD will be a good ol' time. I'll chime in with an update once I get back. The Stylish Vittles-mobile is ready to roll...

Chicago was a success--yeah! We sold lots of books and a couple pages of original artwork (which is always available-just ask), and met and talked with a ton of people. Overall reaction to 'I Met a Girl' was very positive. The Con attendees who purchased the book on Friday or Saturday and had a chance to read it returned to our table to give their approval and show support. In addition we made many contacts--with fans, retailers and promoters from other Cons. Things have shaped up to a good start.

The task at hand now, of course, is continuing the uphill battle to get the book out there. I finally heard back from Diamond and 'I Met a Girl' will be solicited in the September issue of Previews and will then ship to stores in November (except of course for shops in the Minneapolis/St. Paul area where they are already available!). I've also spoken with the St. Olaf Bookstore (where I went to college and where 'I Met a Girl' is set) and they are very excited about the book and are committed to getting it out there for me.

On top of that, it looks like I will be going to San Diego! I've started getting info from them--unfortunately, because of the cost of travel, I am going to have to DRIVE out there! While I'm looking forward to driving through the Southwest, it's not going to be just for fun--I have to take another week off of work and basically get out there and back as fast as I possibly can ALL BY MYSELF because Cori can't afford to take more time off of her new job (she doesn't get paid vacation yet... sorry). So while I'm sure I'll see a lot of cool things, I won't have the luxury of stopping to smell the proverbial rose. In addition to that, I'll also be camping when I stay out there--another way of cutting costs big-time but also a chance to appreciate the countryside. As soon as the thought of the yearly Convention schedule hit my head, I decided that it would be cool if I tried to make each Con experience (except Chicago of course when we can stay at Cori's parent's...) a camping trip since it's so nice to do that anyway. Hopefully Cori and I will be able to go on just a plain camping trip before the good weather heads south again. We'll see.

And then there's just work on the website. All of the major parts are done, but I do need to go back in and finish things like the Links and Recommended Reading sections so that they actually Link to things and have lists. I also need to update my personal page, methinks with some new biography info.

Beyond San Diego, I will be attending FallCon here in Minneapolis, and will attempt to head to the Kansas City Con as well as Mid-Ohio later on in the year. Anyway, for those of you who have already bought the book, I thank you for your support and (hopefully) continued interest, and to those that haven't: give it a good, hard, second thought. Then it's on to the hardest part of all--finding time now to complete the second book. Stay tuned. Word.

The counter is up and counting. I've got everything I need to take to Chicago. The book is available on Amazon.com now-->checkout the 'Buy' link next door. It's off to the big windy. I'll update the site after the con with any news.
